Amazon Launches Service for Building Blockchains
After years of steering clear of the blockchain hype, Amazon is now embracing the technology by introducing two new products.
The Amazon Managed Blockchain is “a fully managed service that makes it easy to create and manage scalable blockchain networks” while removing the costs that come with creating platforms. Users can build networks using one of two popular existing blockchain platforms– Ethereum or Hyperledger Fabric.
Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy made the announcement Wednesday at the company’s reInvent conference, adding that the blockchain platform can be used alongside Amazon’s QLDB to “maintain a complete and verifiable history of data changes.”
“Managed Blockchain can replicate an immutable copy of your blockchain network activity into Amazon Quantum Ledger Database (QLDB), a fully managed ledger database. This allows you to easily analyze the network activity outside the network and gain insights into trends.”
QLDB is basically an external version of a service Amazon built internally to make operations and billing easier.
Those interested in Amazon Managed Blockchain can sign up for the preview now. If approved, users can then create a blockchain network, and invite other AWS accounts to join the network or create more members in their account.
